Buzet

Buzet is an idyllic small town located in the northern part of the beautiful Istrian heart-shaped peninsula. Known as the "City of Truffles," It welcomes you with its centennial architecture, unique history, flavorful food, and colorful streets.

One of the first things you'll notice when visiting Buzet is its 16th-century town walls. They serve as a solid testament to meticulously preserved tradition and architecture.
Buzet boasts a magnificent view of the local landscape and agricultural fields of the Mirna river valley.
Whether you are a history buff, adventurer, or love nature, you'll find some part of yourself in this picturesque place.
The beauty of the Istrian peninsula lies in the perplexity of its neighboring attractions, some of which are the world's smallest town Hum, the music festival in Roč, or wine tours throughout the Istrian peninsula.
Whatever part of Buzet you find yourself in, you will have to stop in at least one "konoba" (eng. tavern). There you will have a chance to taste some traditional dishes paired with a glass of Istrian wine or brandy "biska" (eng. fruit brandy).

Key facts

The forests around Buzet hide some of the most well renowned gastronomic jewels, truffles. While Istria has several magnificent truffles, the most famous and pricey one is the white truffle or Tuber magnatum pic. With its specific taste, this underground Funghi is considered to be the king of Istrian gastronomy. They grow near the Mirna river in the Motovun forest and are often found by specially trained dogs (the process is called "truffle hunting"). Dogs can only smell ripe truffles, making the search process a lot easier. While spending time in Istria you can experience the adventure of a truffle hunt and hopefully find your very own truffle.
